wow. haven't read it; saw the movie. but sounds like i have to add it to the pile.

first thing that comes to mind is the moral clarity of Gus and Call... and we don't rent pigs and the latin on the sign. i loved being in that world; read it straight through and then was sorry when it was over.

i listened to the audiobook so im disqualified from any real literary analysis, but as far as narrative and thematics go it seems to have been mostly about the rapid replacement of all religious and moral norms by a pure continuum of violence without any particular origin other than human weakness

depsite all the pathos and moralizing no one really passes any personal and genuine moral judgement. all causes are externalised and rendered unknowable, motivating only base terror (Carla Jean), short sighted expedience (Moss), blind rule-following (Chigurh), or mere bafflement (Bell).
