This is awesome. Density is literally fun! Why do we mostly visit cities with density for vacation? Because dense places have more to do. Sparsity is boring. Density is fun.

I’m in Europe this week, and really appreciating the combination of gentle density, lots of small businesses, walkability, transit and biking, and overall vibrancy of life. Amsterdam, especially, feels like a model for Ann Arbor (sans canals, ofc).

This is great! I'm proud that our current City Council has recognized that we have so little vacant land (and historic districts that will never change) that we need to welcome new residents *everywhere* we can! All the cities that people love to visit and walk around in have evolved over time.

The zoning pieces for parks, schools, commercial, and transit are key. We're seeing areas of developer-led density pop up in Auckland, but they aren't thinking about the rest of the elements for a vibrant community; or if they do it's quick-and-cheap versions like fast food, convenience stores, etc.

Ann Arbor encourages park contributions from new developments, enhancing our 163 parks and thriving greenbelt. Schools have a $1 billion bond fund, but we lack affordable commercial space. With housing in high demand, few build commercial spaces, making it tough for new ventures.
