Of course, the real reason tech firms like Meta want to steal the world's best and latest creative content is because they want to go on building mass audiences, which they monetise through advertising.

Except it doesn't. It spews out things that superficially look like it, but don't stand up to anything like close scrutiny. Poetry is an odd edge case.

I don't think it is just a matter of getting better at doing what it currently does. A piece of music is not just the sounds you hear, it is that performance/composition by that person. What AI does is a different category of activity.

But I think you might be right about what consumers will buy.

As long as we, collectively, decide to value the human over the machine, we'll be fine. I'm not so sure we will, however... What I am sure about is that this moment is a critical one, in determining the balance.

I'm honestly not convinced of the former, given that the processes are essentially probabilisitic and don't involve real reasoning. We're already seeing plateaux in performance by these companies' own measures. The latter is the bigger problem, given how much of it is already being thrown about
