That's hardcore. Even the USA, with a wink and nod, pretended to help the indigenous people with a quasi government bureau. White supremacy just out here white supremacying.
The proposed “Voice” wasn’t even to be a formal advisory body: it didn’t have the right to be advised or consulted by Parliament. It was nothing more than a tiny nod towards our history. The vote was essentially symbolic, and we used it to symbolically turn our backs on Australia’s First Nations.
Grew up in Australia and the only surprising thing here is that the political landscape doesn't seem to have moved so much as an inch in 30 years. Heartbreaking.
It's somehow both comforting and appalling to see further proof that it isn't just America that is currently in the throes of neo fascism. The world has gone mad.

It was called within 3 hours.
This has all of the statistics, but to win a referendum change, 4 out of 6 states and more than 50% of people voting needed to vote yes.
All six said no, and the national yes didn't even reach 40%.
Disgusting.
Even the Northern Territory, which has a LOT of indigenous people didn't.
It's a horrendous result.
It's very hard to get a referdum through. It's more surprising when we achieve change through a referdum! The system is fucked.
