If you know anyone in Maine, tell them to urge Susan Collins to support 3rd Circuit Court Nominee Adeel Manji. Manchin previously said he would not support any Judicial Nominee without at least one republican voting for them. 3rd Circuit currently 3/3. Manji - only outstanding Circuit Court nominee
Dems who plainly state their intention to support expanding the judiciary, including SCOTUS, would have a lot of support. 9 justices for 330 million is crazy.
The idea is that we could replace her now with someone young before they take over everything forever. But I'm not convinced that a Biden pick would get confirmed by the end of the term anyway.
Not gonna lie. It's something that in the recent history of older Democrats being pushed to retire for the benefit of the party and the next generation, White males are 2 for 2 (Biden, Breyer), and women are 0 for 3 (Ginsberg, Feinstein, Sotomayor).
Biden did have to be forced out though, having originally said he'd be a caretaker for the next generation. He did the right thing but maybe not at the time it would have mattered
He didn't have to step down. It was just the right thing to do, esp in light of the politics around it. All the older gen that have pushed to step down had their own political issues to deal with too.
I just want this on the record so that when the calls come pushing for Sotomayor to step down, I don't want to hear anybody talking about "they would never ask a man to do this."
She could always submit an intent to resign. Says that she intends to resign once a replacement has been confirmed. If no one is confirmed before the current Congress is done, she rescinds it and continues to serve on the bench in 2025.
This is so dangerous. RBG did a lot of great, but her legacy is not retiring when President Obama could’ve replaced her. Sotomayor has done a lot of great, but she should reconsider… fast
I mean they both voted to confirm Kavanaugh, Barrett and Gorsuch and voted against convicting on both impeachments so I don’t think it makes sense to call them “anti-maga.” They’ll fall in line like every other Republican did in 2016 and are doing now.
right, but are they onboard with you know, RFK running the FDA or whatever agency promised to him? They all have a threshold as opposed to Cruz who has none at all. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.
There is no need for it, not only it is unlikely for the dems to get another justice in time, but also she is a top judge of the US (elite class), so she is surely recieving the best of the best in healthcare. Statistically she will serve at least two more presidential terms
Sure. But he is on his way out now. He has no more Fs to give. And he basically just welcomed McCormick to the Senate after beating Casey in PA (assuming that is true in the end).
No, it's the one they want to pretend if she steps down they'll confirm her replacement in a month when in reality they sat on their hands when Obama was actually eligible to name a justice yet they just...decided not to.
I generally like Sotomayor but let’s not act like people are just calling for her to step down now. Been publicly clear that she has health issues for a while now and people called for her especially earlier in the year.
Also there is a 50(+1)-50 senate right now which there wasn’t with Garland.
I was watching Washington week think it was yesterday morning and I missed which judge they were speaking of… which this has to stop all these damn politics reporters getting a platform that is NOT helpful at ALL
Of course not. It’s those who cater to the trash the 6 conservative justices are ready and willing to push for, which none help the country progress. “If it doesn’t apply, let it fly.”
The Dems’ learning curve being essentially flat, as they are proving daily, this topic should be put to rest swiftly before they actually go and repeat EVERYTHING all over again.
😡😡😡😡
I hate that those MFs will take over the senate but I won’t miss Chuck.
I think we'll see a repeat of what happened when Roberts came on. The Chief Justice will stop down, Trump appoints a (much younger) replacement, the replacement is appointed new Chief Justice.

Respectfully, ma'am.
ML used to be a booby prize with no powers at all (like VP)
As ML Lbj took those minimalist powers and made himself as powerful as the president.
See Caro's master of the senate for more

Hopefully president trump will finalize what fdr and Biden started.
We should all send him letters urging this.
