It was so cold out that people in Snag could hear dogs barking in a village six kilometres to the north.
When breath was exhaled, it made a tinkling sound in the air.

The husky dogs, usually okay with cold weather, slept on top of their kennels to escape the cold ground, with their noses tucked in under their tails.

It was also so cold that Gordon Toole, the government weather observer, couldn't make a mark on the thermometer with his pen because the ink had frozen.

It took a week before that could happen because it was too cold for any aircraft to land at Snag.
