New rules have gone into effect in Japan to crack down on "kira-kira names." Parents must now spell out a new child's registered name in katakana, & city halls can reject readings that have no relation to the underlying readings or meanings of the associated kanji.

Maybe a new trend could be children with "oficial" names and "real names".
One for the government and personal documents and other for everyday use.
