Then you've just created two election days and thats it own type of problem. Staggering out the Primaries in theory can help give lesser known, underfunded candidates a chance. If there is a National primary, then only the best funded candidates have a chance.
I’m skeptical that a longer campaign season favors lesser funded candidates. But even conceding that, there’s no reason the pres. primaries couldn’t start much later & end with the equivalent of Super Tuesday on the 4th of July. And all state and local primaries could still take place that day.
I'm totally fine with Spring being Primary season. But I think there is value on making Candidates do that retail politicking. Small events in people's living rooms and diners and so on. So you start in April, every two weeks a cluster of states, varying in size have primaries, it's over by July 4.
