Stanwood winders are the best! I've had mine for over a decade and only got a new one because the yarn store where I work "borrowed" mine and kept it (my boss bought the new one for me).

If you use it a lot (like the one in the yarn store!) you'll need to take it apart from time to time and clean all the gears. I've never had to do it at home, but the winder at work does dozens of balls a day, 7 days a week.

I got these too! I haven’t used the winder yet, only the swift with a nostepinne. The swift is wonderful! The screws work a little easier with a little bit of wax applied to them.

Well, I just learned what a nostepinne is! I’m realizing now all my yarn balls probably have crazy tight tension from manually winding them on my hand. I can’t wait to free them. 🍰

I have that swift and have to use a clamp below the collar to keep it expanded. The screw doesn‘t work for me because I think mine has a flaw of some kind. But I ordered it from Knitpicks back in probably 2006 or 2007, so I‘ve had it for years. It‘s still great to have!
