I wouldn’t agree that these are particularly desperate times economically, and the only way to tackle the huge threats that we do face is through strong democratic institutions. Progressives should think a lot harder before they join in the right wing game of tearing them down.

I think the obvious things to say are that they seem pretty orthodox and consistent with other central banks dealing w similar issues and that the Reserve Bank board has a lot more expertise and much better data and modelling than me, you or Greg.

Yeah, I do. In retrospect, I think their March and April 2022 statements proved to be overly optimistic about the transitory nature of the inflation that had appeared, but it made sense at the time.

But the rest of the world was experiencing the same inflationary pressures, and they moved on int rate increases much earlier. Overly optimistic? say like Lowe on his very misleading statement on int rates staying at a low for the foreseeable future? People borrowed way more on the strength of that.

That’s not true. Aust started raising before the ECB, for example.

The RBA statements at the time explained why they thought there were differences bw Aust and some other economies that started earlier.

“Orthodox and consistent” is another way of saying conservative and traditional.

As for my knowledge of things fiduciary, I suspect Greg and I have sufficient intelligence and understanding to proffer commentary, can’t say the same about you, thus far.
