Answering on its face. Myself and many of my fellows considered reskinning and table rules to be par for the course. Myself at least have very little expectation of a direct from page to table implementation.
Using your same analogy I BELIEVE they're saying "a hammer is not a wrench, and I'd rather use a wrench someone else made than figure out how to use my hammer as a wrench".
The analogies have me awfully confused, but I think this is the that of it. My post is in the context of "just reskin it" being used as a *counterargument*. People will often use it to dismiss any criticism of weak flavor writing, but flavor and mechanics are equally worthy of analysis and critique.
Hey I agree wholeheartedly! I think mechanics should reflect the story being told, and very often they have nothing to do with each other and it's worth mentioning
It's more like, "Yes, I know I can use this hefty crowbar I bought to hammer in nails, but I wish they'd stop telling me that whenever I suggest they just sell some hammers."
"You can reskin it" is often just a tool for shutting down discussions about where a game falls flat, or even just discussions about where a game might improve or expand. That's what this is about.
Sorry if I was passive-aggressive in reply; you kind of came in swinging like I knew you!
Indeed, the thing i missed was the flavor component of your question. You are saying you are looking for specific thing and thats not it, and then people are all buy it anyway!
Yeah, exactly. I like reflavoring things! I like tweaking mechanics, too! But I also sometimes like it when something comes out the gate and immediately starts sparking ideas instead of forcing me to come up with my own from whole cloth.

Or hows this one, "i know i can use a butter knife as a flat head, but i want a screwdriver" i use analogies allot on the phones.
