I think Ohtani took less than he could have got. My understanding is he came up with the deal and only offered it to the Dodgers. And Soto was massively inflated by Cohen. I don’t think either deal fully represents either players baseball value.

proof that, as a free agent player, you should NOT make it common knowledge that you won't play for a NYC team. If the yankees and mets thought they'd have a shot, Ohtani could have leveraged those exorbitant offers with the west coast teams he wanted to play for.
