-if you like beaches and mountains, there's amazing nature here
-we get lots of cool concerts and events
-parts of the city are extremely walkable
-fantastic food scene
-good book stores
-good events, but it can be really hard for art spaces to make it
-because the rent is too high
-we often have really annoying city council/mayors. But we can do something about that.
Also, I really like the climate here, but we're much further north than most people expect and I know the lack of sunlight can be really hard; I've had friends move away because of it.
I only live in Seattle part-time (though am trying to transition to full-time)
- I love the weather so much. I'm from FL and the weather is good for my soul.
The food really is great. Very here for it.
- If you do have a car, it's close to other cities that also have cool stuff.
The housing cost is truly absurd though. I can't afford to live there by myself even a little, and most roommate situations are still too much for me. I'm going through the housing authority/subsidized housing because it's just not gonna happen any other way
I've lived just east of Seattle most of my life so I'm used to the reserved culture, high cost of living, the dark winters, cold damp climate...but when it's sunny so many things to do with the city, ocean, forest, mountains, desert. So ease of access to lots of different things stands out to me.
Car sadness applies only in Seattle proper. Outside the city, cars are essential/good. Public transit in or to the city is good, elsewhere spotty. If you are going to the city from outside, driving somewhere you can take a bus/train/foot ferry is a good plan.
Itβs a beautiful areaβ¦ I mean REALLY GORGEOUS. Theyβve built out the light rail north of the city. Sadly, when the time comes for us to move back to the U.S. (assuming it still exists in its current state 4 years from now), we probably wonβt be able to afford to live in that area.
I'm a 4 seasons person and I found the weather punishing-- 3 months of gorgeous perfect summer / 9 months of dreary chilly October. Seattle Freeze hit me bad. It's quite lefty but in an exhaustingly performative way, hard (for me) to find the real ones. Great pho, great arts. Very queer.
Best - Weather (they talk about the rain, but it is usually misty stuff), things to do, you can live without a car, local food
Worst - costs, especially for housing, downtown has become unsafe, homelessness/drugs, very understaffed police
My partner and I moved to this area from a southern state recently. Public transit is good and getting better, people are generally polite, and they have actual infrastructure for public services. No open carry, people feel more relaxed and expressive.

Not being part of Canada.

the food is fantastic though
an abundance of street fairs with live music
some of the wealthiest people on earth behaving like they do
it's a physically beautiful place but spiritually troubled
Worst: entire city shuts down at 8 pm (more or less) unless you drink for a hobby
Worst - costs, especially for housing, downtown has become unsafe, homelessness/drugs, very understaffed police
Worst things- Food costs. It's much more expensive than even NYC
Best: likely to find a little bit of anything you're looking for
Beauty of the area
mild weather
long summer days
Food
Puget Sound
Worst:
$$$
"Seattle Freeze"
public transit outside of light rail
gray skies/(take vitamin d supplements!)
The first full winter will either make you or break you.
We don't use umbrellas in the PNW because it's rude to drip on your fellow pedestrians.
It drizzles 300 days a year and you will have a favorite rainshell jacket.
