What a beautiful obituary. It made me smile to read that working on Archbold was ‘a complete nightmare [which] took over my life’. I worked with him on that for 3-4 years and it is probably fair!

A beautiful obituary. I was one of the Twitter army - we followed each other in 2012, having been introduced as fellow grammar pedants. He was witty and warm and wore his genius lightly. I am sorry for your loss.

Oh no! He and I were diagnosed at the same time and we dm’d each other on Twitter until I left when it became X and we lost touch. My condolences, thoughts and prayers for his family, friends and colleagues. RIP James.

Really lovely obituary - thank you. Apart from social media, I remember him vividly from when I did pupillage at what was then 1 Mitre Court Buildings. Always larger than life, charming and super impressive.
