In times like these I always think back to the oldie classic anime "Kill La Kill" Episode 7, which perfectly describes the situation in an easy to understand way. I helps to watch the previous 6 episodes, but this episode can be watched and understood on its own as well.

One thing I think is probably happening is that, when watching movies, rooting for someone is still a passive experience. Movies don't teach us to convert that into personal action. Especially since life doesn't have a script or clearly defined options. With no playbook for resistance, how to begin?

My guess is that a big part of it is the generational momentum of having the narrative being that Israel is a nation of victims and the underdog. Since the rebels are always the underdog, this mixes the signals.

sometimes I wonder. I'm so used to seeing people because of "culture wars" only interacting with stuff to get absolutely mad and angry and wonder if they would even bother to watch Andor outside of some rage-grifter super-cutting it to yell at.

What kills me is seeing media representations having zero problem accurately portraying the apartheid regime as it is, even as allies, in broadcasts spanning back 20 years. Some of the creepiest interviews are from that time.

Beyond just saying racism, I think a large part of it is that the empire in this case is also their home and, lacking the critical thinking skills necessary to overcome that cognitive dissonance, many don't see themselves as part of the empire when they totally are. That and the racism.

Propaganda conflates Israel (a state) with Jews (a people), and maintains the image of Jews as the ultimate oppressed underdog, and all enemies of Israel as Nazis 2.0 trying to do another Holocaust. FWIW I don't personally know many people who still buy it. Netanyahu isn't even trying to play along.
