Candace or Kandake, was actually a title for queens in the Greco-Roman world. The one who inspires this colorway here though is actually named Queen Candace.

The particular 14thc Bohemian manuscript image is from an apocryphal story of St. Matthew's travels to Ethiopia to convert the ppl there.

Eventually he met the royal family & learned that King Egippus & Queen Candace's son had died (he was featured earlier this month). The image that inspires the colorway depicts the queen delighted when her son is healed.

Candace's colorway was inspired by her her purple, indigo & pink dress & robe. I boosted the colors and added a splash of indigo to soften the purple.
