I think removing even the teeniest consequence like a "disorderly conduct" charge from the possibilities as a result of sexually assaulting someone (the most likely outcome for teenagers reporting these crimes) is going to encourage rather than discourage more sexual assaults.

A system where you give out minor infringements, like a fine, for a major wrongdoing like SA actually encourages more SA, because bad actors know they can easily get away with it.

Disorderly conduct fines have historically targeted young women (dress code) and minorities.

Nobody has removed any consequences from sexual assault. The only thing that has been changed is that now they might be actually taken seriously versus “solved” with a fine that only serves to benefit the assaulter

Any teacher will tell you that there is no incentive to follow rules. I am for any consequences including fining and filing criminal charges on kids if behavior warrants it. Stop making excuses for these kids. We need to reestablish that the adults are in charge.

I’m lucky as shit. Our school “safety officer” only became that bc his son was bullied to shit so he went that route to not have it happen like his son.

Plus he was the ONLY one who took the threats made against me seriously. 2 girls in my class planned to poison me.

He didn’t play with that.

Most schools do have actual cops and it’s grotesque. Many have guns too (ours had extreme pepper spray that works from 50 feet).
Many Americans are not safe people :/ and this is what happens

Police should not be in schools. We need to stop criminalizing students for misbehavior. Behavior issues in schools are a symptom of deeper problems. Address those problems, and cultivate a culture of learning in schools by supporting teachers and their relationship with their students.

There are many assaults on teachers by full grown students. Those need more than a detention. I have always advocated for teachers to file charges when assaulted by any student.

Then the school can call for a police response, cops should not be in schools to regulate normal student behavior and conduct. Using police for that is a wasteful, that's what the administrators are for. Cops for crime and staff for behavior and conduct that isn't necessarily criminal

They are, my kids must have been so lucky to make it through all 12 years of school without being either a victim or a criminal. Maybe you and the other folks in your area should go to school board meetings and protest their negligence by allowing the school to become a den of crime
