Women may struggle to get diagnoses for health problems — including sleep apnea, thyroid issues and certain heart conditions — early enough if their symptoms are misattributed to anxiety.

Too simple to say #anxiety OR "something else". Should be no surprise body/mind in constant, inevitable interaction. Yes, the "physical" cause(s) that may be over-attributed to anxiety MUST be addressed; they will also worsen & be worsened by #stress, as well as anxiety.

I once tried to get a referral to a gynecologist for very heavy periods. I didn't get the referral until I bought a menstrual cup and started tracking exactly how much I was bleeding. My doctor took one look at the numbers and directed his staff to call around to get me an emergency appointment.
I had a hysterectomy a year later and my uterus had precancerous lesions all over it. If I had delayed much longer, I wouldn't be here to tell the tale.
Well, that was also the doctor who nearly let me die of sepsis after the birth of my second child a couple of years earlier, so yeah. I switched doctors after that, once I stopped being anemic and had the energy to do it.
this would be super great info if doctors actually believed us when we say something is wrong then misdiagnose us cuz they're risk-averse thanks to insurance companies and big pharma
Damn. It’s about time this issue gets some attention. As an ER provider, this comes up every damn shift, and I’m always labeled the instigator when I point it out. #SSOTS
I'm fed up with it. I don't even go to the doctor anymore unless I'm in great pain. They dismiss symptoms and blame anxiety all the time. I'm 52, I had enough.
This is from the food. This is where RFK is correct. Stop eating the snacks, cereals, and vegan crap. Eat real food designed for humans which is meat, dairy, and eggs. Your life will change DRASTICALLY in just 30 days
Years in the medical field, women were ignored or just chalked up to "hysteria." Anxiety, and probably depression, is the modern form of a hysteria diagnosis
Every time I hear someone saying something like this I first wonder what kind of third world hell hole they must live in before I catch myself and realise where they are. Your society should be treating you better than this.
#gaslighting happens to women everywhere, all the time. Very disturbing when it’s medical. #genderbias is too common a problem and creates bad outcomes for #women
There's another diagnosis handed women too readily, Fibromyalgia. It's the new "hysteria", an opt put of actual diagnosis and appropriate care. A friend's mom died of "Fibromyalgia". Every woman in the world with Hashimoto's is told she has Fibromyalgia if her symptoms persist once level.
The problem is horrendous medical care. I've seen so many incompetents. My father's generation would affixiate w disgust. Women r more sensitive but buck making interferes. The men r dildos. Too quick to Rx. Take the time to know and listen to ur patients. U r killing US.
I had extremely severe hypothyroidism for 45 years and 7 doctors told me I was depressed or the problems were genetic - when finally diagnosed after I screamed at the doctors my endocrinologist said I was in such bad shape he would have expected me to be in a coma at best!!!
Claiming personal power to take action on their own behalf often stops anxiety. I see this in my own life and in the lives of my clients over and over again.
Endometriosis. Frequently diagnosed late because of medical practitioners dismissing womens' testimony on their own excruciating pain as just bad menstrual cramps.
Personal. I was diagnosed hypothyroid having a repeatedly raised and rising TSH. But they couldn't blame "women's issues" for multiple symptoms so it was easy.
I see women who have far, far worse blood test results being told they don't have a thyroid issue.
Treatment for hypothyroidism in most parts of the world is woeful. Looking at TSH, which is a signalling hormone produced by the pituitary gland, is only part of the story. What really matters is thyroid hormones.
I spent the first six years of my life in and out of the hospital for “she’s really sick, but ???”. At 7, I told my mom that my joints hurt, and she told me I was lying. That “lie” almost killed me bc of how much I internalized that misogyny. She’s a nurse. It’s THAT ingrained.
I found out recently that the reason they didn’t know what was wrong with me is because what I have is extremely rare in men, but more common in women. They didn’t research women, so they didn’t know.
Male gastroenterologist sent me to a psychiatrist saying I was making myself sick & I didn't have gall bladder issues. I convinced a female doctor to order a gall bladder ultrasound. I had golf ball-sized gallstones & needed surgery. I only use female doctors now.
Artificial EMF = Electro Magnetic Fields. Our cells and mitochondria are electric ones and every time there is electricity exists an EMF. It's Physics. But also biology. It's the first time in Anthropocene that there is a huge amount of non native EMF surrounding us.

We’re none of those things. Ignore us at your peril.
There I fixed it for you, @washingtonpost.com.
