A cohort of competitive figure skaters and their companions, including retired champions, athletic coaches and family members, was aboard the American Airlines flight that crashed into the Potomac River.

It sadly reminds me of the loss of the entire US Figure Skating Team in an airplane crash on February 15, 1961...so sorry, and prayers for all the lovely skaters then and now...💔😢🙏⛸️🌺
RE: The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to provide a briefing later Thursday, D.C. ..

Well... whoever is left on the board anyway. 🤷♀️ tRump and Musk have been taking a wreaking ball to civil service employees, remember?
And Washington Post...will you be doing some serious investigative reporting on how tRump's actions will impact safety of air travel going forward? Or has Jeff Bezos put the kibosh on reporting anything negative about his new homeboy?🤷♀️
Republicans are the only party that Deregulates and wants No safety measures in food and cars and air traffic …this clown mentions other admin.
On that bullshit
As a former resident of the district - helicopters fly over the Potomac all the time. What IS strange is why a Blackhawk pilot who has visual awareness of a passenger jet proceeds to fly into that jet.
There are always helicopters there. But for decades I have always wondered why they built Reagan National so close to the Capital and to the pentagon. This was always eventually going to happen. They need to consider closing the airport permanently.
Clearly that helicopter was in the wrong place but I’ve been to DC many times and the airspace is so tightly congested. Then the proximity to the Capital makes that airport a security issue as well. The airport really should never have been built there.
Why hasn’t anyone published a list of who was on the flights? The airline has the manifest and the military should know who was flying the VIP bird. It’s been over 12hrs now…
Generally it's because families are being notified first. You knowing who was on there has little to no meaning to you, but finding out from the news your family member was there can be difficult. There are protocols, I presume they are following them.
The details will be murky for days, if not weeks. And the NTSB will have a whole investigation into everything and probably be a year before an official report on it. Pushing for more more more, now now now, just results in bad information that has to be corrected (and ignored) later.
It would be exponentially worse if they all went away. My town used to have 2 major dailies. The only one remaining is on line and is mostly AP reprints and sports. And it costs more than the NYT.
In order to payout political donors, Trump’s destruction cuts of services to cut taxes for the wealthy will create more uncertainty. People hold onto their money, not certain about “what’s going to happen next?” His MO is chaos, confusing & fear. Three devastating attributes AGAINST an economy.
January 20: FAA director fired ➡️ January 21: Air Traffic Controller hiring frozen ➡️ January 22: Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded ➡️ January 28: Buyout/retirement demand sent to existing employees ➡️ January 29: First American mid-air collision in 16 years This is on Trump!

On that bullshit
I remember after 9/11 everyone was reqired to be in their seats 30 minutes before landing.
Musk attacks Whitaker on Twitter and demands his resignation and ‘radical reform’ at the FAA. Whitaker resigns on January 20th.
The deadliest US plane crash since 2001 occurs a week later.
We are not safe with Musk in charge.
