With notebooks? Not an EU thing with Apple. They were the first to rely on only USB-C in 2015 as the sole port, before any other notebook OEM.

Well, in todays world you can’t offer a notebook without USB-C. And I guess they just let power delivery in.

The EU doesn’t mandate USB-C for Notebooks yet, that comes in in April 2026. and is only applicable to those devices with 240W or less power demand.

I found that out on day one when I got a brand new Macbook Pro M3 and the magsafe charger sucked bad. Couldn't keep up with the processing power, forcing the Mac to run out of battery. Switched to USB-C and problem solved. I guess it's just part of Mac's standard since the 2016 models.

I guess since the MagSafe-less MacBooks charged over USB-C, they didn't want to remove that feature either?

It's handy. I mostly use MagSafe, but I have USB-Cs all over, and it's nice being able to take advantage of that.
