My daughter was called out be her 2nd grade teacher for cussing. Teacher said she needed to prove she could spell the words before she could use them.

We were called into a parent/teacher mtg for discipline. Teacher was appalled that we praised our kid for perfect spelling!

Swear words are most definitely a thing. I don't entirely disagree with you but swear words are literally stored in a different part of the brain. They are core words that can trigger emotional and aggressive responses.

The paper seems to conclude that the words themselves aren't what causes the effect. It's the social stigma attached to those words.

In other words, cussing is only bad because we've been trained to treat those specific words as bad.

It's social, not physiological.

There is actually a decent amount of research but yeah I don't know if swearing from a young age negates it or not. A clear example is people with specific types of dementia will only be able to communicate with swear words.

I agree. I grew up and live in the south eastern US, swearing is seen as a "sin" here. I never understood it 😭 both the concept of sin and why swearing is a sin. They're fucking WORDS. Hell, the only reason "swear" words exist is because people decided specific words were a little too flavorful 🙃
