As another Finnish person whose work involves dealing with image formats: lossy WebP and lossless WebP are essentially two separate image formats under one banner and Jyrki here only developed the latter (the former originating from tech by On2 Technologies which Google had purchased)
Anyway, point is that WebP is the invention of multiple people, not just one. And while lossy WebP is kinda meh, lossless WebP is actually a pretty solid lossless format. Though ideally we could just all be using JPEG XL today... And Google is certainly one major party to blame as to why we can't
i agree and also this for the guy in your replies who is like "noooo don't blame the inventor or the invention but the people who never really implemented it correctly"
Here I was thinking "why does VoidBurger who I know to be from the US know what a Finnish bus look like" but then I peeked at your profile and saw you moved here a while back so that explains that at least
tbh their beef should with Reddit, Twitter, Google and those who serve WebP files or those who operate sites/apps that don't support WebP files rather than some random Finnish nerd who wanted to make images smaller

Unless he's a dick for other reasons of course, which tbh is entirely possible :D
