This is how I feel about it too. Obviously the Clone Wars series develops the prequels into something much better than they were but Yoda was like THE Jedi General who was already a couple hundred years old by then. I like that he still bops droids on principle though.
I had not watched the six since they were released. I just watched them again. Wow. Particularly "The Return of the Jedi". The redemption of Darth with the father/son reconciliation got to me at 67 in a way I could never have felt at 24. Should I even watch the Skywalker trilogy?
I’m 64. You should see them at least once. There are moments of redemption like that in the 2nd and 3rd movies of the Disney trilogy. As with the original trilogy, the second film is easily the best. Anti-woke fan boys hated it.
Yoda was a puppet in the Phantom Menace but I guess they needed to cgi him in the other 2 for this saber duels or they would have just looked ridiculous.
tbf he was going through a LOT during the time we see him in the prequels
like the threat of the sith and the force just straight up not working in a lot of ways along with an entire war
you don't really have time to be silly during a war i think (some would probably find a way tho)
The best part of the newer sequels was Luke going crazy and guzzling the Blue Milk because it shows that Jedi just get weird when they’re on their own, but I still don’t think the prequels characterize yoda well. https://bsky.app/profile/thescoobymike.bsky.social/post/3lhhydbnslc24
I liked the depiction of lule In tlj because it goes back to the Jedi as strange wizards living in mountain caves doing asecticism and dispensing esoteric spiritual guidance. Jedis as space cops never worked for me.
He comes from a long line of Jedi masters doing exactly that (Outside of qui-gon who died too early to reach his isolation arc gambling and drinking in some backwater bar on Tatooine xD
I think the main reason Disney Star Wars has any fans is that the old people who still watch this garbage only remember the OG trilogy through some Gen X haze. Same reason JJ Abrams thought Stormtroopers were robots lol.
Prequel Yoda is just a totally different character. Like you could sort of see the through line in Phantom Menace, especially the version with the puppet. But once he started saber dueling and giving military commands in the second film, I feel like that went out the window.
Yoda was actually crazy, the bit he was doing was a parody of a jedi master but it got lost somewhere and he just committed till the bit was forced to end
I think this is the main reason The Mandalorian is resonating with me more than any other post-OT Star Wars stuff. Say what you will about Grogu, he's a puppet and he's got jokes
We got legit original trilogy puppet Yoda and his goofiness back in The Last Jedi, and people were too busy complaining about Rey to appreciate it ☹️
It was great
The fact how he was a completely functional and serious guy and in the moment the republic collapsed he just went goblin mode INSTANTLY makes it even funnier actually

Glad Rian johnson is heading up all 3 new movies instead of having to fight with JJ over everything.
Ew.

Obi-Wan must have misheard him in his distress, it wasn't
"Train the boy"
It was "Finally a holiday <3"

It makes sense that the old hermit who lives in a swamp would be slowly losing his mind…
