Listening to the Pixies and unlike a lot of other childhood faves they still bang. What other older bands would still sound fresh and break through if they suddenly burst onto the stage today?

On the sounding fresh bit - I went to see them at the Forum last year. Turned out they were playing Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde back-to-back in their entirety. I just couldn’t take it and hit the pub next door. Previous time at Ally Pally they were fab though.
Someone left their copy of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in my car in the late 90s (still no clue who) and it's been one of my favorites ever since. Definitely holds up as it's become one of my kid's favorites also.
I was thinking about Pixies because of one of those "name a 10/10 album with no filler" threads and did Pixies do a single filler song on any of their albums?
On old music and kids I did get a "This is really catchy. I don't like it, but it's catchy" for the Flaming Lips from the 10yo this morning.
When I was a kid my uncle would put on the rolling stones and say "can you believe this was made in the 60s?!" and I thought yah it sounds old, as I went along agreeably. Waiting for gen alpha to pipe in before giving an opinion.
Oh yeah that’s a whole different thing. Was thinking about stuff I loved when I was younger that I now just think “eh, it’s ok” and primarily like for the pure nostalgia.
Oh word. Rage against the machine is still pretty ragey, Nirvana is dope, Metallica still rocks. Stone temple pilots is worth a listen just to get the cringeys.
So I'm not a big fan of either of them, but pop music hasn't really moved on from Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys/N'Sync style in any meaningful sense, so I imagine all three would still be successful if they were brand new now.
The Pixies are epic. In the same vintage I would posit: a) The Cult, b) Beastie Boys, c) Many other things produced by Rick Rubin. Bonus material if Canadian, d) The Tragically Hip.
One of my teenage son's friends got into the pixies this winter and I got to completely embarrass my son when I recognised what they listened to and then recommend Sonic Youth as a follow on.

On the country side, Dwight Yoakam is still doing good stuff.
Bjork is unique. Some people can’t stand her music, but it stays fresh
Bowie was the model of staying fresh
