It’s a perennial human curse. And it’s irrelevant which “-ism” is used to frame the othering, the tribal impulse, the oldest of all human urges. This is a passage from Hawes book “The Shortest History of Germany. It’s the 1890s. 20 years later : WW1 (Episode 1). Another 20 years WW2 (Episode 2).
It turns out, a LOT of people are just fine with fascism as long as it brutalizes and immiserates the people that *they* hate. Like William Gibson said: "Racists don't think they're racist. They just think they're right."
