I love this because I forget how much DEI has become a corporate slogan all about selling its benefits. I just so happen to buy those benefits but focusing on that tends to undersell the basic moral imperative underlaying it.

Yep.The reason for DEI is to prevent segregation.Thats the point. Folks who are against DEI should own that they think segregation is not only ok but evidence of justice/merit-then follow that logic where it leads.Some will go all the way.Fine.Make them say it. Again&again. No rhetorical quarter.

Well, yes, functionally. But not rhetorically. And reframing it in this way - boldly & plainly - can also reform its mandate and function (which are often unclear to the officers who’re supposed to execute them). Or the mandate & function of whatever we decide to do instead to prevent segregation.

I think the language is just agonistic. It is the language of people willing to fight for what they believe not because they like starting shit but because they understand power & want to solve problems and they don’t conceded the moral high ground to (obviously bad faith) opponents.

That’s fair. I also think that we need more antagonism in our leftist politics, so that’s where I’m coming from. Your qualification that we need to differentiate real politics from fractiousness is crucial though.
