It reads as a very civil service standard lines response, and that those standard lines haven’t been updated recently. Which is why getting the petition to 100,000 signatures is important so a debate can force public scrutiny of what is currently a cut and paste view of the matter.

It was ironic that they quoted the reasons why a ban is needed - wildlife and peat restoration etc, as part of reason to ignore the call for a ban. No real evidence why it shouldn’t be considered other than bland statements as to its ‘value’ - can only keep up the fight
