West Point has banned the clubs formally, but might features of the clubs (e.g., camaraderie, helping each other to overcome obstacles) just go underground? At non-military institutions where I have taught I would expect so (with clandestine faculty support), but how different are the academies?
I could see the white Christian freaks dictating white-boys-only admission policies. But the stupidly bullying move of crushing student associations is maybe a perversely a hopeful sign?
Anyone that rabidly, pointlessly vicious is generating political enemies at a breathtaking rate.
I had what's now called DEI training for the 1st time more than 50 years ago in an army which was being torn about by racial strife, despite the fact that back then the army was probably the least racist institution in the country. This won't end well.
Please listen. Silicon Valley is taking over of the Government. Please get the Senate to recognize what is going on. If Kash Patel is confirmed democracy is over. Elon, Peter Theil, JD Vance and Mike Johnson have to be stopped today. Read post on "Dark Enlightenment."
Admission to the service academies is highly competitive. They'll always be able to fill the spots, but they may struggle to maintain an officer corps that looks like the troops they lead.
I recall the story of Molly Pitcher that was most likely a gal by the name of Mary Ludwig Hays who fought in the Battle of Monmouth. So I guess Trump must really hate the DEI of even George Washington.
I recently reread 1984 and I’m having nightmares confusing parts of the book with reality. Pretty soon it will be 2 +2 = 5 and people gleefully will accept that.
Whether it’s popular or not is irrelevant. In the army you’re supposed to do the right thing, and anybody who’s got a problem with it can shut their fucking pie hole.
At least, that’s the principle they’re *supposed* to follow…
That's the real question. What is the "right thing"? Who gets to decide this? I guess this is a consequence of voting for a toddler/felon/bully/fake for president. trump dodged the draft but professes to know what strength looks like. Pathetic.
For the school administrators? The right thing is to look after your troops (the students) and refuse to implement a divisive & discriminatory policy that will unfairly target some, while tarring the rest with the same racist brush of the Presidency.
"Many of the clubs hosted luncheons, lecture series and off-campus trips. Though the clubs were focused on different groups, participation was open to every cadet, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexuality."
This is a blatant, direct & undeserved insult aimed at the students they are supposed to be training into officers. The fact that the school willing did this is going to be toxic as hell for their students.
For those who don’t know, West Point isn’t just a training establishment, it’s an officer school. The graduates (including black & female ones) will become officer who will be expected to effectively lead their troops, many of whom will be white…
…they expect POC & female officers to train hard, to excel, and then to lead their troops with fairness and justice. But the school is unwilling to model this same behaviour for its students when they are under the school’s leadership?
This disgusts me…
I find it hard to believe that a country made up of so many different people from so many other parts of the world or backgrounds will someday expect these same people to defend a country that has turned its back on them should the country be attacked.
Some good news: Anti-DEI hasn't yet hit the U.S. mint. Grab some bc they might be worth a fortune someday. Or they'll be cool trinkets of "Before times."
I am curious- was Trump in many group activities as a student? My guess would be that president(s)Trump and Musk were not; I know these outrageous actions are part of a strategic takeover but it also feels kind of reactive. Nothing that’s happened is good for our country. Nothing. Very destructive.
As a vet who worked in the AG corps @ Fort Bliss in 1965, seeing Hegseth as our Sec of Defense is very scary and very dangerous. It's not even Hegseth; Elmer Fudd would do as well in the position because it is Trump and Musk in direct control.
Oh, and by the way, the Doomsday Clock has moved up.
The country is just flat out weaker when we aren't diversified. We have less collective skin in the game as a society. Smart people know this. What are we doing?
Diversity is what makes us bountiful. Trump's gone too far. Forcing West Point to bend over backwards to deny our rich diversity, especially after they led the way, is as anti-American as it gets. I feel sadness for cadets who've upheld decency & honor towards one another for the right reasons.

It’s a great way to avoid
The draft.

The military, police, and firefighters voted for Trump and couldn’t wait for him to usher in a new day. Some didn’t, but most did.
"The academy said that...religious programs or activities were not affected."
