I disagree with this. Plenty of things could have happened to alter history. This was far from inevitable. W losing in 2000. Romney winning in 2012. Any variety of luck based factors could have occurred in 2016 to cause Trump to lose and the R’s to move on.

Not a matter of not holding them responsible; it's more recognizing that they (GOP voters) were already a lost cause. Couldn't (and shouldn't) be relied upon to uphold democracy.

I voted for HRC even though I couldn't stand her. Said long before 2016 there was no way I'd ever vote for her. But on the day I knew there was no other choice.

It does go a bit hard to see a party not voting for their own candidate, esp when I'd crawl over broken glass to vote for one I despised.
