We once rented a house that was super old (late 1800's) that had not been renovated. It had mice. We had three cats. We found mouse heads all through the house for a week or two and then...nothing.
Occasionally, I thought my cats were not well because they seemed lethargic, sleepy, & generally not well and I’d begin to consider a vet visit. Then, they’d bring me a gift in the middle of the night (usually to my bed!) and I’d understand they were working the night shift 🙃 🤦♀️
My 2 hunters are enjoying their afternoon snooze. I am the designee who captures and relocates all snakes, birds and mice that they release inside the house.
You may need to go on a serious hunt for how they're getting in. Any hole about dime-sized and up is a culprit. If you've just had a roof redone, look there. The transitions - that's where ours were. You might also see chewed flashing.
Beware - they're smart. He's pushing the cage, to get seeds.
They mos def have the gift of absolute focus. My cat recently caught a mouse after hours of obsessive watching and waiting, and a day later I found it’s head left as a tribute…I said, gee, thanks, bro…he’s like, what, you wanted the guts?

No more mice.
This is why I get the traps that break their little necksies. If they made a mouse guillotine, I'd buy it.
DEATH TO MOUSIES!!
Oh, there was a second one but I never found that particular friend, dead or alive 🤦🏻♀️
Current friends are hitchhiking fleas. Not sure which is worse.
Lily can have a mouse toy like this one that makes squeaking noises. My cats love it.
