Few things hurt more in gaming than losing hours of progress because I forgot to save...like a 'this is about to be my villain origin story' kind of feeling 😭

My wife *compulsively* saves. A quicksave option is her best friend. I always tease her about it, but when something goes wrong in-game I'm also always thankful for her habits.
I could tell how worried and sorry he was about it; he always hated how the save files pile up in that game and would regularly clean the list up. I always asked him to keep at least a handful of files to prevent this very thing, but it happened and all I could do was accept it. 🤷🏻♂️
That freaking sucks. I was fairly early in my playthrough but was really grinding for the first time in a long time. Was about to visit Triss. Now I am back to level 8 and have to replay most of Velen - thank God it’s a game we love lol
Skyrim did this to me when I first started playing it when it was released. I would kill 3 dragons and an entire fort worth of bandits and forsworn while roaming the wilds then die from something stupid like fall damage and it was all undone 💀
The reason I've never played anymore Subnautica, I got far, like had a whole underwater base, had the big sub etc. was on PS4 and didn't know it didn't have autosave, PS4 never got turned off, just put into hibernation. Then one day the power cuts and when I boot it back up I'm right at the start.
Seriously!!! I've bounced so fast off stuff when I realize ANY amount of progress was lost... if I'm not totally into it, that is. But if I've stopped playing it for 2 weeks, I probably aint lol
I feel this.. I completely dropped a game once because it didn't save hours of progress. When I play open world games I get so invested in the progress that it feels almost wrong to have to go back unplanned and try to do it again after failing to save.
Kingdom Come Deliverance, I had to finally just get a mod so I could save whenever - I was losing long chunks of the game because some dumb group of bandits overwhelmed me
This is why I’ll argue to the death that taking out auto saves is an anti-fun mechanic unless it’s specifically for a challenge mode. Having to worry about saving instead of being able to fully focus on the game is actively bad design and is why devs stopped doing it.
I totally agree! We joke about "save scumming" but having to save the game before entering any new cave/dungeon/zone because the game won't auto-save for me when entering a new area really takes the immersion away for me. Dying in new place and being set back 2 hours does, too.
While I think save-scumming is a separate thing from auto-save issues, I don’t have a problem with it either. No one should care how someone else plays a single player game. If they want a certain outcome, it’s perfectly fine for them to try and get it however possible.
I once spent 20 hours on Atelier Ryza on the PS4 and didn't save once, played something else with my nephew and lost ALL that progress, I just have stared at that save screen for ages in despair.
I was nearly finished playing Rage 2 a few years ago when, out of nowhere, my save file corrupted. Lost all progress.
Happened again the next time too 😓

Having to re-do stuff particularly if you had a difficult fight is so ass 😭😭
Nothing makes me think about sending death threats more 🤣😂
i have trauma from that 😭
I swear you want to just forget you ever played it 😅
Including my first ever pup, who I had lovingly trained to win all the competitions. I still miss you, Rosie 😢
Nearly 20 years ago, and yet, I still hold that grudge. And I will for all eternity!
Happened again the next time too 😓
The game "saves" your progress as you go, but when you fire up the game later, there's no Load functionality and you have to start over from zero.
Unless you finish the game all in one go, you'll never finish.
Now that school's back, dunno when I'll ever find that big of a block to play it amd finish.
Play, leave it on overnight, then continue the next day?
Ew.
