I totally agree, I don't think that people ACTUALLY hated Trudeau that much, they were just convinced that they did by a lot of online misinfo, a decade of "we hated him for his last name before he even entered politics, therefor he is divisive!" plus the reality of being in power for a decade.

Off the top of my head; he lied about improving relationships with FNIM, didn't fix the water crisis, pushed WOC out of his cabinet, spent more on genocide against the Wet'suwet'en than Harper did on anti-Indigenous RCMP violence, lied about proportional representation, voted against glbi.

Our PMs are low bars. You could say the same about Oka, downloading expenses to the provinces to claim fiscal management, deregulation of media, selling out manufacturing, handing housing to the private sector, RCMP violence, NAFTA, climate, Shawinigate, sponsorship scandal, lying to end GST…

All of that is true. I think part of the dislike is the cynicism of his initial "sunny ways, feminist" type branding, followed by constantly disappointing neoliberal decisions. I always thought he got the job because of his last name, and I resent him for not proving me wrong.

I guess I feel like because each new PM has access to more info/research/evidence than the last one, the new one always becomes the worst we've ever had when they repeat previous failed policies. Like with everything we know about basic income now, to not implement it is increasingly unacceptable.

And I think many people looking back who didn't like him would say similar. "Didn't like these things but wasn't so bad all in all." I think the people who TRULY hated him were a minority. Whereas (this was the original context) I think far more people find Pollievre to be genuinely vile. (incl. me)

Trudeau was a neoliberal manager. Now, that’s bad in that he didn’t deal with the underlying causes of poverty, police violence, racism, etc. But he was in no way worse than any other PM going back to Trudeau Sr.
