I can't speak for anyone else, but all of *my* ActBlue pages include this pop-up tool to opt out of having your phone number & email address shared with any of the campaigns. It shows up during the checkout process. 1/

Unfortunately, there's no way to *guarantee* other campaigns won't get this info, because FEC regulations *require* campaigns to publicly report your name & *mailing address* and it's absurdly easy for 3rd-party "harvesting" companies to cross-match these to get email/phone number info as well. 2/

I don't think the average person knows just how much info about them, their life, their associations, their hobbies, their shopping habits, their demographics, etc is out there, all vacuumed into enormous databases. In the 90s, I worked on political campaigns and we had tons of info BEFORE the web!

For instance, I just visited https://FEC.gov & downloaded all Q1 2025 donations to my own House member, Haley Stevens.

She received 516 donations from individuals totaling nearly $690,000 in the first 3 months of the year, ranging from $10 to $3,500 apiece.

I now have all of their home addresses.

If I plug in a small donor's name & address into a simple Google search, I get a listings from LinkedIn, Spokeo, Intelius, Wiza and so on.

While some of these require registration/fees to access more info, a lot of the info pops up.

I now have their email & phone number w/out even clicking thru!

Not only do I have their name, mailing address, phone number & email, I also have their employer, job description, age & names of their immediate relatives.

And again, I *didn't even need to click thru to any of the websites which sell that sort of data.*

This has always been my concern when it comes to potential donations as well as petitions. The unsolicited political text messages are already too much. I have had to unsubscribe from some emails and block senders. They really need to put political campaigns / parties on the do not call list.

And obviously update the do not call list to encompass text messaging. Just by registering, we should not have to be subject to unsolicited communication.
