In my world, Labour would use the backlash against this move as a REASON to open safe routes for refugees, saying that yes, of course Labour will follow international law and conventions and therefore they are establishing safer, legal routes to enable this.

Asylum seeker and refugee and economic migrant are very different things. I also think it goes hand in hand with foreign policy and development (which includes economic, human rights, and equality) and deconfliction. We need to make the whole planet "the nice side of town".

I need to check but you can only apply for citizenship after 10 years? If so, it is a moot point in practice. Refugees granted leave to remain can still behave as a UK citizen apart from voting in elections (needs clarifying). This change is designed to cut off attack lines from right-wing

Its legit mad to me that i have gone from a long standing labour member at the last leadership election who voted for starmer to holding my nose and voting for them at the last election to someone who will 100% never vote for these people again. That is some achievement.

Getting James Timpson in to reform prisons. The long process to re-nationalize railways - which i accept is the best they can do. Thats about it though, which does not make up for the constant and continual appeal to the worst of the nation that will never vote for them anyway. Its Batshit crazy.
