Exploited migrant farm workers in UK paid for picks, not hours. Workers not paid for in-work travel, time spent moving between workstations, team meetings, receiving instructions on equipment use. Employers violating employment rights. Need effective enforcement, not deregulation.

The @Telegraph, @thetimes, @MailOnline & @TheSun publish corrections to their scaremongering on undocumented migrants in London. Imagine between them the reach & power of these papers. The fact is they are using that power to instil Trumpist hate & we are ill-equipped to resist.

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

Trump net approval at -8 (45/53). 57% say he's exceeding authority, 84% say he should follow court rulings. Musk approval net -15 (34/49). Heavy margins against him shutting departments, and 63% worried about access to personal data. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Going down memory lane when the migrants' right movement was unafraid to do some real campaigning. And when Labour had a strong values-based voice. Wondering if we would be able to get this strong a vocal outcry just 5 years later. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-poli...

This is also the logical conclusion of decades now of slow mainstreaming of far-right talking points Islamophobia, transphobia, anti-immigration discourses were never "legitimate grievances" that deserved to be aired. Their purpose was to prepare the way for this

Well worth reading. I’ve just read “Nomad Century” by Gaia Vince which is also a great contribution to understanding migration.

🚨1 in 3 children living in deep poverty are migrant children. This is not a coincidence. Hostile immigration policies drive migrant families into poverty. Tell this Government to protect EVERY child from poverty. Take action: act.praxis.org.uk/email-minist...

If you read @zoejardiniere.bsky.social post regularly not much of this will be a surprise to you, however the piece ties together many important arguments & pushes back on many of the anti-imigration talking points. Well worth a read.

Same point. Finally this is being talked about in the media.

Always this. This was true in 2016 and it is true today. Be more like Spain — stop pandering to the extreme right and make the positive case for immigration. It’s a wonderful thing culturally and an economic necessity

The data could not be more clear: our public services will collapse without immigration. People desperately need to come here & we desperately need people, too. Me, for @metrouk.bsky.social metro.co.uk/2025/02/19/n...

Fascism is about manufacturing crises; the far-right doesn't just not care, it revels in the chaos of collapsing institutions and social structures. Labour bowing to the pressure of their immigration rhetoric is an immense failing, playing straight into their hands.

Why is the right gaining so much ground? Oh, I dunno, maybe it helps that they have the active financial support of all the world’s billionaires 🤪🤪 Thanks Minnie for spelling it out 🙄

The truth too unpalatable for politicians to lay out is if you cant see a GP, the likelihood is that it isn’t an immigrant – who is on average younger and healthier than you – ahead in the queue, but one of the growing number of older people. Me for @metrouk.bsky.social metro.co.uk/2025/02/19/n...

This video has made me $1.38 🤑🤑 The anti-migrant lobby is funded by millionaires & oligarchs, & exists fundamentally to distract us from their increasing accumulation of power & wealth. Aaand then there's me. Support me by watching & sharing 😊 www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAjl...

Ukraine has $26 TRILLION of mineral wealth. As the map shows, it's concentrated in the East & most of it is now under Russian control. This is why Trump wants a peace deal: instead of losing money by 'sending' aid, he wants American companies to extract wealth and enjoy Russia's spoils of war.

Fucking legend. Making the far right cry. Like he made me cry with his wonderful whiney lyrics when I was an angsty child 🖤💜 Brian Molko forever www.theguardian.com/music/2025/f...

Because adding elections in Russia too would imply the existence of candidates still alive

Resentencing IPP prisoners will not only end once and for all one of the most cruel and monumental injustices of the past half century - it will also head off the medium-term prison capacity crisis at the same time. Ending this scandal should be a complete no-brainer for the government

Despite endless stories that suggest the opposite, unemployment has stayed steady - & historically low at 4.4% The panic about too many people & too many of them being on benefits is misplaced. The problem is the wealth we all create goes only to the rich #r4today

Ding ding ding! Watch this. He’s laying it out. My team at Stanford Internet Observatory documented this process meticulously, over & over again, in 2020. The R machine retaliated against us. When Elon bought X, it became even sharper. The rest of the political spectrum needs to get in the game.
