James. Loved Orbital too, & enjoyed countless others, but James should be an instant classic. It creates a completely new indictment of slavery, using satire, humor, exaggeration, irony, and bringing familiar characters to life in a much more (for me) complete way. Masterpiece.
I finally finished the Wheel of Time series early this year, and just haven't been able to get reading again since! Hoping these books of the year can give some inspiration!
Hah - yes it can be difficult to read something else and you miss your book friends. Know that re-reads are possible, even recommendable! And check out @wotspoilers.bsky.social podcast and learn what you missed the first time (it’s a lot!) 😊 #WoTSkies
some favourites released this year: The World To Come @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social, Think Again, Some Like It Cold @ellemcnicoll.bsky.social, You Are Here, Long Island... a re-read as I handsold so many of it as book of the month - brother. do. you. love. me. 💛
The Fantasy bar has been high this year overall favourite was The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett the investigation of a murder by fast growing tree had me hooked, impressive world building & characters too. Was rather different

My book of year. Will probably be my book of the decade. Possibly century too—if I make it.
Enchanting tale, lovely phrasing, and astonishing depth, in such a tiny read.💕
Confession…it is my husband’s but it’s still my book of the year!
I was gripped from start to finish!
