Yep, until fines are kind of based on a persons wealth then the super wealthy will just pay the fine..keeping vast garments green during water shortages - no problem, here’s $1000 and I don’t care if farmers go short of water

The rich always use money to circumvent rules. I remember when we lived in a wealthy town outside of Boston. A bunch of kids had a party at a house being renovated, trashed it. The dad’s got them off. Not even an apology. Just paid the damages. Not a good lesson.

I believe Jobs actually leased a new car every 6 months to reset the grace period (which no longer exists as such, as I understand it) for needing to get plates. But I take your point

When I was in college I worked for a sweatshop of a company whose owner was stupidly rich and arrogant. He would fire pregnant women for taking leave, chain the emergency exits shut, and lots of illegal acts. He would pay the fines and call them business taxes.

I knew a principal who chained all the school exit doors shut at 3:30, even though there were club meetings, practices, cleaning staff, still in the building. I made an anonymous call to the state fire marshal which shut that down-school principals can’t just defy the fire marshal.
