It's free (and easy) to put a security freeze on your credit at all 3 credit agencies. It's also easy to unfreeze it if you need to temporarily to apply for credit. Do what you can to protect yourself.

The Social Security Admin and all three credit bureaus should place default warnings or freezes on every single SS# used for credit and background checks, opening utility accounts, etc. This always should have been standard protocol; these orgs have been enabling identity thieves for decades
