I'm French and was shocked to see so many people with crutches and wheel-chair when I lived in Spain in 1992-93. Thousands and thousands or Spaniards got the polio between 1955 and 1965 just because dictator Franco refused to vaccinate while all the countries around were fighting polio with the vax.

Not to take away from the benefits of vaccines...but back in 1800, frontier life was very rough.

Antibiotics, sanitation and improved living conditions have also playing heavily into reducing childhood mortalities.

The graph doesn't take those and other factors into consideration.

Antibiotics dont prevent or cure measles, influenza, viral pneumonia.There's no cure for polio.Drug-resistant TB is on the rise.

Wow it looks like states should ask that anyone visiting from Idaho should be able to show immunisation records before allowed entry. It's risky to allow possible contamination. If you can do it for livestock etc. It should be the same for all animals. Cross state epidemic control?

I had whooping cough when I was 7 as they did not have vaccinations then. Still remember how awful it was. I survived.
I also had every type of measles there was. The solution then was to keep us home and then remove our tonsils when we were well.

Thank you for your work. My mother survived polio with a permanent disfigurement that we, as her children both accepted and never understood. We did not speak of it. But we got ever vaccine available; b/c my mother knew, walked every day, the alternative.

The father of a dear friend had polio. I wish people could understand the pain and anguish he and his family suffered because of it, they would no doubt the vaccines benefits.
