When I got back the customs officer didn't even ask us where we had been. Didn't ask how long we were gone, didn't ask if we had anything to declare, didn't ask where our final destination was. He just gave us the once-over, said "welcome back. Exit to the left" and that was it.

The 1 time I wanted them to NOT ask if we had anything to declare, I was asked. I said "a case of rum" & he did a triple-take (in Toronto) & was like "...pardon?" & I said "a case of rum." & he just stared. I clarified & said "twelve, 750ml bottles of rum." He pointed & said "over there" 😂

And I will say, back then the import taxes and customs fees were 50% and risk of forfeiture if they believed you were going to resell. I paid an extra $70 in fees and wheeled away my case of rum. Gave 1 bottle as a gift, eventually drank 11. lol
