Look, the fact is that AI isn’t going away so you can either try and learn more about how to be responsible with it or you can let the louder people in power control the narrative. Sorry.

I will say though that part of controlling the narrative is understanding what is and is not AI. The word has been taken almost exclusively by LLMs and that’s not the only AI. In fact,it’s problematic to make that association because it insinuates that the text predictor on your phone is intelligent
“learning to use it” when the insinuation is you accept its APPROPRIATE use in scenarios where it’s only useful by chance (for example in medicine or coding where SOMETIMES it gets it right but not consistently) is dangerous. It’s relying on a magic 8 ball because it got the first few answers right.
We do need to learn to use it, you’re right, but a BIG part of learning to use it is learning to recognize the part of our brains that gets tricked to think it’s intelligent when it’s doing something more similar to a psychic cold reading of someone. It’s a hammer that sometimes plays 3 card monte.
Like, I dunno tarot for example. You can think it tells the future and cause you to quit your job and dump your partner or you can try and use it for self reflection. I’m not claiming to be the smartest person about all of this stuff but…
