y'all who cares if he's a good person if he's got a few billion and he winds up drawing fire from people who don't great otherwise at least it's not another Schumer. we aren't really sitting on a lot of good options here

IMO it’ll take another white guy for the Dems to defeat the MAGA infused Rep candidate in the next election (if there’s one). I hate it but it seems that’s the reality of America
"Big Tent" is why people like Schumer and Fetterman are in office to begin with. Some skepticism is justified. Still, going against party leadership to make this statement is absolutely a good sign.
Yeah Pritzker seems to fit the mould for "At least he stands for SOMETHING", plus, shit in one hand and count perfect politicians with the other and see which one fills up first
Do you get the feeling that maybe, just maybe, the left needs to look inward, realize we have a common enemy, and just throw our weight between the people that are fighting at this moment for better or worse.
Perfect has absolutely become the enemy of good enough given the stakes.
Yes. There are no perfect people, we're all flawed, what matters is who we are in the moment, what we want for the future, and that we're willing to fight for it.
Clearly we can only have support or solidarity with good politicians who have a strong sense of morality and justice who would never do anything immoral, corrupt, or selfish.
Unfortunately this filters out all living politicians.
So ig we just gotta make do with what we have.
I don't think "living" is necessary in that sentence.
I think that we have a serious problem with how we relate to politicians as a country. We should support them as long as, and to the extent that they are useful to us.
No admiration. No worship. They're supposed to work for us.
Damned straight. I'm an IL resident; didn't vote for the guy in the primaries (did in the general though), and definitely disagree with some of his stuff (PICA annoys the fuck outta me), but I'm glad we've got someone NOT considered a political outlier standing up.
I think this is actually a healthier way to view politicians. We need to stop trying to find heroes and instead look at politicians as someone who we hire to do a job. I don't have to personally like my car mechanic. I just need him/her to do their job: fix my car and not rip me off.
he threw his money around to beat better, more progressive gubernatorial candidates in Illinois. I held my nose and voted for him. Really wasn't expecting him to be the best governor in my lifetime, both in substance and message. He is, though. Granted I still live in Illinois, so the bar's not high
It's the lefts need for a hero that has gotten us to where we are. The saying I heard years ago was that the right falls in line and the left falls in love. And it's that stupid need to love their politician that loses elections.
A lot of people would have been very unhappy during the Golden age of unionization in this country... If you're not willing to work with someone just because they have unsavory connections, I would suggest you may not understand the moment that we're in.

It just might be someone like JB
Perfect has absolutely become the enemy of good enough given the stakes.
we all need to look inward and link arms to beat these fuckers
But I’m arguing with old guys from my home town on Facebook. So I’m doing #mypart 😂
We are all collectively culpable and share the load. We can do this.
Then we can go back to arguing about what brand of leftism should rule!

He's one of the few that is resisting authoritarians when challenged, instead of immediately capitulating to fascists.
We take what we can get
I don't like Pritzker. At all. He is one of the only Dems with a pulpit who is meeting the moment.
You don't have to agree 100% with someone to say they're one of a few not being completely spineless.
