My understanding is that Musk was very careful in the way he worded his bribery so that it wouldn't be buying votes under WI state law. If the AG thinks that they can absolutely, 100% win, and make it stick through appeals, then yes, prosecute. But failing would vindicate Muskrat.
Couldn’t disagree more. Police and prosecutors routinely tag people on the flimsiest nonsense because they know well that the procedure is the punishment. Don’t buy into their claims of invincibility; make them fight for every single criminal inch that they would steal.
Yeah, my worry as well. Hopefully he missed something and is liable, but I'm not a lawyer or knowledgeable about WI law. If they go after and fall, it just boosts him more. If there isn't a law on the books, then I think that should be the next effort, so it doesn't happen again.
It's such an easy position to win from. Even the most frothy-mouthed people in MAGA have a hard time getting mad when you point out wealth inequality—at least at an individual level.
Not consistently and unambiguously applying existing laws, specifically prosecuting evil-doing scofflaws the way the rest of us filthy peons would be subject to prosecution, is a big part of what got you lot into this dumpster fire in the first place.
The counterargument will be the same as at witch trials i.e. "oh but see: since candidate won despite so much money spent on opposition, that means democracy wasn't threatened."
It's obviously an asinine position, but the opposition doesn't run on logic.
It just makes it easier to say, "I was right." The disappointment is still there. For me, the disappointment comes from the realization that evil doesn't only live in a big easily identified enemy like Trump or Musk. It lives in my neighbors and family and friends. That's fucking disappointing.
For real the right will scream "Lawfare!!!" if they get a ticket for parking in a handicap spot. We have to stop letting fear of how they'll spin it stop us from actually doing something.

There's a lot to argue that this is a line in the sand that someone with a stronger spine than Schumer could rally a lot of support for.
Kinda like, on the subject of justice vs billionaires, there was a mandate from the people.
So yeah, that might be a fun place to start.

What, are we gonna throw Elon in jail for bribing voters, which is clearly illegal? Lmao not here. He’s rich enough to where the law doesn’t apply.
