Flight deck - you walk into. Thus, the deck.

Cockpit - you climb into a pit. Think fighter jets.

Nobody has ever called the place where pilots sit on an airline a cockpit. Likewise, fighter jocks have never been asked to sit in a flight deck. That helicopter had a flight deck.
