Non-horror films are full of inhuman characters that control their fates because of their heroic efforts and talent. Horror is about human beings, often being crushed by things they can't control or even understand.
I believe theyβve done studies that show this is why some people really enjoy horror because it actually decreases their anxiety. Itβs pretty cool stuff!
I have what my mom and I call βcozy horrorβ that weβve watched SO many times and put on as comfort π₯° the thing, ROLTD, event horizon, alien, they live, resident evil, army of darkness, CHUD, House 2, Prometheus, Pumpkinhead, ghostbusters, pandorum, etc thereβs so many π₯°
Gotta love it when that ancient spirit has taken another idiot who ignored the "Do not touch" sign on the coffin with a demonic skull sign. Making the world a better place, one idiot at a time
Personally I like watching uncut interrogation videos. It's comforting to see people have a worse day than me and oh! They just admitted they DID rent that Subaru!
Except when you hear something in the house go *bump* while watching horror movies. Suddenly it's not longer in your control and existential crisis sets in so I putonsomepants and grab the closestHEAVVIEST object next to youandwallk outside just to find out...
My wife and I talk about this all the time! It stops her nightmares and helps my anxiety because it directs the emotions into the horror movies. Itβs definitely free therapy!
What horror movies do you consider rewatches? What horror movies are only good the first time seeing them or do you just consider them different when watched again?
I'm more of the supernatural entity causes terror type, but I'm not averse to aliens. In fact, now that I think about it, some of the best horror I've seen featured them. So, please, hit me with your best aliens π
I'll check it out! Since you haven't seen No One Will Save You, you'll have to watch it and let me know how you like it! Hope you like particular quiet movies π
No One Will Save You is my 2nd favorite of all time behind the Alien franchise. In terms of alien / horror that is.
i feel like my partner wishes i'd watch other things, especially with them but i'm just like, noooooo, i need my bedtime of ungodly horrors to get me to sleep. watch your comedies in your own time π
My husband doesn't understand why I don't want to watch comedies when I'm upset. I tried explaining that I need something more awful than what I'm going through to comfort me. Comedies don't help at all
it's cathartic to watch horror when you're going through something i feel. comedies (whilst they work for some) just feel like a distraction rather than processing
I have been trying for years to come up with a word that fully explains why I love horror movies so much and this the perfect description controllable anxiety. Imma steal that phrase if u donβt mine
Sending you love. It's a drag when you have to have a "controllable anxiety" outlet. I am thankful to have a few other things. Wishing you true inner peace, as well as an outer peace around you that will allow you to move even more freely.
Blessings to you Sarah.
My husband thinks I have a weird obsession with horror flicks. They are also my personal therapy. I confront my fear in a controlled setting, thus making reality less frightening.

Annihilation and the Alien franchise are actually the only ones I've seen.
If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend Life. Absolutely loved the design of the alien in that one.
