I'm genuinely disheartened by the lack of reviews/coverage for "Eyes on the Prize III," which premieres on HBO tonight.

Sigh. This is, I guess, a "me" problem. But nothing you could watch this week is better.

I was surprised last night to see HBO Max had actually put it on their main page as a featured item. I assumed they were gonna try to bury it like they do all their better or more useful stuff in place of, like, The Baldwins.

Yeah, I saw it get somewhat featured on the Max homepage, plus it got the post-"Last Week Tonight" trailer slot on Sunday, which HBO probably figures is one of its best available promotional slots. But... still... Not enough.

Speaking of: I know he's got solid ratings but they also tend to bury Last Week Tonight. Bill Maher's all over the app, but I always have to search for John Oliver. Maybe it's just me tho.

If you subscribe, sure. Otherwise... No. I can't rule out that it might make it to Netflix someday, but that would be speculation. And it also wouldn't be free.

A great example of a major industry problem right now. A drop in commissions due to reduced budgets (or in my case with one outlet, a limit on how many pieces they'll pay for - but they'll take more for 'free'), shuttered outlets, no interest from amateur sites who want stars, and, often, poor PR.

For all the talk about how "woke" Hollywood is, there sure doesn't seem to be much supporting evidence. Then again, I don't understand why you'd invest years and millions of dollars in anything you'd proceed to hide like an illegitimate child in a Victorian melodrama. I don't understand this world.

I saw *Eyes On The Prize*, Parts 1 and 2 on PBS in the late-80s/early-90s, and was blown away! It was brilliant but further underscored just how bereft my liberal high school and collegiate education were of Black history! I’m excited that HBO is airing the third installment of this seminal series.

It's not necessarily disinterest, it's just a different media model these days that prevents an influx of attention (or awareness) when something is exclusively on a paid streaming channel. I don't have HBO Max and rarely subscribe. But I appreciate you placing this on my radar. Thank you.

Oh for SURE, it's much more "lack of awareness for a questionably promoted product" than "disinterest." But this is the sort of thing that HBO could have started promoting four months ago and treated as the prestige achievement that it is, rather than as a relative afterthought.
