I have to check this out. I believe a while back you posted a link regarding online identity verification. Do you still have it? I’ve been trying to research true effective methods of verification especially pertaining to social profiles.

It has very good fallback behaviour, as the links can be followed by clicking on them. It builds on DNS, but by working at the web layer.
We have built crawlers for it before, but that deterred the silos from keeping support.

It's very easy to talk devs into adding rel=me to outbound links. It's more work to get them to parse it.
The real problem is when you hit the bizdev layer who only want inbound links
