My reaction to the Musk memo. Federal gov’t just ain’t a tech startup 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes! Our drive for efficiency and scale and productivity is sapping the soup from our lives. Reminds me of many Tummelvision.tv episodes. @kevinmarks.com www.instagram.com/reel/DFa5ZnL...

I’m revisiting and ruminating on Granovetter’s “strength of weak ties” in 2025 — how is it holding up? A few questions to start: -Do we naturally crave stronger ties as we age, or has tech/social media changed driven change? -Are weak ties holding up in our current zeitgeist?

Observation: I’ve gotten SO out of the habit of “tweeting” over the past few years that it’s like working a new muscle to remind myself how delightful it can be to reconnect online.

The legacy of crypto isn’t a technology revolution but instead that it created a culture where get rich quick mentality, grifting and Ponzi schemes were a virtue. Then made these people rich enough that they could influence elections. That and being the financial instrument for ransomware payments

With every launch of a new social media app, I am reminded of High School. Really, I’m fine hanging out far away from *that* clique. Aside - anyone have that old Breakfast Club movie as social media app meme to pull up?!

“Threads feels like when a local restaurant you enjoy opens a location in an airport.” Boom.

I have huge news: Ada Lovelace Day is BACK! Thanks to the Royal Institution, Stylist, Digital Science, Redgate & dxw, we'll be hosting our 'STEM cabaret' in-person once more, on Tues 10 Oct at the Ri. More info: https://findingada.com/blog/2023/06/13/ada-lovelace-day-is-back-on-10-october-2023/

Threads is app-only? No web based posting? How weirdly retro, did we lose a decade somewhere?

I LOVE this program - I hope it gets traction in other precincts!! Community building and defusing in - common sense https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/04/nyregion/brooklyn-brownsville-no-police.html

When seltzer was seltzer. This story just made me happy - so very New York. And the rare lovey comment section filled with lovely comment personal memories https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/13/nyregion/brooklyn-seltzer-boys.html

So, 14 years ago, when twitter was so new that it had just introduced retweets, a bunch of us talked about how to think about social on the web at Web2 expo NYC. This was me on vocabularies https://youtu.be/qYsMtroVLeA

In all her glory

Sign of the times: I’ve been diagnosed with “social media platform ADD disorder ”

This. 1000%. Let’s acknowledge the hidden labor of the individuals/users who set tone and culture - er Tummlers In todays parlance- “federated moderators” - perhaps even would love to see enhanced features for those who craft culture and context Cc @kevinmarks.com
