I don't really agree since it isn't, you know, a game.... but maybe they should have "content of the year" or something instead. Ultimately doesn't really matter I guess though lol. Just weird.
all because REm4ke didn't win
Only remakes
(No matter what, Erdtree is fantastic but Metaphor is my GOTY and no awards show can take that from me)
Now that a DLC is one the most popular things this year they need to bend the rules so ER doesn't end up relegated to one of those side things were they read the winner to no fanfare.
Pathetic.
But it isn't a sequel, which is why it should not be eligible.
That can come in many forms of the medium. Why should it matter if it's an individual game, or an expansion or remake?
An addition to a game that came out years ago should not be eligible to beat out whole entire games that came out this year. That would be silly.
Imagine if it was released as its own game. How does that make it more qualified? It's still a high quality experience either way. What exactly is the meaningful difference that makes it more qualified?
Why is the experience of an individual game more valuable and worthy of that celebration than an expansion that's just as impactful?
Whether it be a new game, expansion, remake, etc. If the devs created something worthy of being called the best gaming experience of the year, it should be recognized as such.
Woke: Shin Megami Tensei V has another shot at GOTY
I know it's not gonna happen but we can all dream, right.
That's the only thing I'm mixed on though
it buries any true originality under a sea of nostalgia and gives a false read to the industry that all we want is the same content over and over again when this stuff wins
TGA doing this is the final nail in the coffin
I would die happy if I got a remaster/ remake of The Legend of Spyro trilogy. (Not to be confused with the Spyro the Dragon games.)
The problem with this argument is you have to define what a remake undeserving of a nomination even is, which is entirely subjective.
I think the Game Awards are right to do this.
The Wazzler wins again!
Not to mention this decision means that result wouldn’t happen again, saying that DLC is eligible for regular categories instead of the ongoing category
