@support.bsky.team Feature request: When users attempt to create a new account that's similar to an existing one, you hit them with "The username you chose is too similar to an existing account. If this is a mistake, in 300 characters tell us how and we'll review."
As a platform, Bluesky can define the parameters of what they feel is too similar. It can be as strict or as loose as they feel appropriate. Also this is why I added the review bit — so a human can evaluate the name is valid within reason.
Bluesky only has 20 employees handling everything as of right now, and no one has time to verify millions of accounts.
AI is not a human and using protocol to vet still leads to constant mistakes. It's all code and can't differentiate between real and fake without precise parameters.
This isn't rocket surgery. Research can be done and new solutions can be implemented. If not perfect, mitigations happen. There's this weird defeatist attitude lingering. The answer is not "this can't be done" it needs to be "let's figure out what we can actually do"
AI plays a role whether you realize it or not, and it will get exponentially worse.
Bluesky is going through an obvious growing phase and right now stability and function is their priority. They also need the right people doing the right things.
You dual-posting on other sites/apps is part of the problem. AI will follow you everywhere with the imposters trying to mimic those other fake accounts while also being created here.
Might be worth investing into a domain name and rebranding your account to Wario.64 or wario64.official, or something. A verification process. Unfortunately this problem will just get worse as Bluesky gets larger.

Should deter most fake accounts.
EG: Bob21 is already used, making people not be able to make bob 22, bob20, bob211, bob2 and so forth.

2. I didn't mention AI.
3. You can absolutely build a solution to at least address the issue. Or contract a company who can. Underestimating the bsky team helps no one.

It's an endless pit of bullshit.
Anyway, reported it
I was disappointed to see that it was a fake Wario account following me today.
